It emphasizes the intersection of spatial and social inequalities, where the unequal distribution of housing contributes to broader patterns of exclusion, particularly in urban areas like Belgrade. By analyzing the impact of market-driven urban planning and the lack of public policies, the study identifies key dimensions of spatial injustice, such as the commodification of housing, privatization, and the absence of comprehensive regulatory frameworks. It also highlights the importance of spatial justice as linked to broader goals of social equity, focusing on housing as a fundamental human right. Given Serbia’s EU integration process and its alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Goal 10 (Reduced Inequality), this study advocates for the development of inclusive housing policies. It calls for comprehensive reform to promote affordable, adequate, and safe housing for all, aiming to create more equitable urban environments. The findings offer valuable insights for policymakers, urban planners, and civil society organizations working to address housing segregation and contribute to Serbia’s path toward EU integration and the achievement of SDGs.
